Archuleta Gets His Recording Deal
David Archuleta , the American Idol loser, second place winner, got his record deal; as if this was not remotely possible. David signed on with Jive Records , the same company that the winner of the competition, David Cook signed with.
Both Davids have grown very close, during their internship this year with American Idol. David Archuleta has found the big brother he never had in David Cook. Both of them formed a very close bond over the last few months, while in this year’s American Idol competition, and you can’t help but wonder; what influence Cook had with Archuleta signing to the same company he is with now.
Jive Records is no wannabe contender in the recording industry. They are British based, with main offices in New York City, and owned by Sony. Their stable of performing artists have included a very diverse cross section of musical talents, such as: Britney Spears, Buddy Guy, Justin Timberlake, Nick Carter, Tool, Usher, Weird Al Yankovic and Jordin Sparks.
It would seem that this deal is a solid career move for young David. If David’s father does not take over the studio, Archuleta should have a very promising first release sometime in the very near future.
On a personal note, I love the Beatles. David Archuleta covered “The Long and Winding Road” for us this past season. It was the last entry into The Beatles songbook, before they broke up, so long ago. The last time I saw this song performed a few years ago, Paul McCartney could not get through it, without crying.
David Archuleta is so young, yet he performed his rendition of this moving ballad, with such dignity and grace, that the moment took my breath away. I have included this performance in the video clip below.
Below is a rare Beatles video clip of “The Long and Winding Road”
